2009-2010

THE FIRST PROJECT
The first project of this year was to construct a 16 measure drum part using the program "Garage Band," made by Apple. Students must play and quantize all 16 measures of this project to the appropriate quantize resolution, i.e. quarter notes, eighth notes, or sixteenth notes.

THE SECOND PROJECT

This project is a basic chord progression project based on the simple chords and progressions we have discussed in class. Use any chords for this progression, including any of the major or sus chords we have discussed.

THE THIRD PROJECT:

Take the song given out in class and mix it, as per our discussions about how to correctly mix a song.

THE FOURTH PROJECT:

Take your current project and add production, according to our recent class discussions and examples on typical pop song production.

THE FINAL PROJECT
In this class you must submit a final recorded project. This project can come in a wide variety of forms, but still must meet certain criteria. This document with give you some ideas on how to approach this assignment.

IDEAS:
All projects must have FORM, i.e. verse, chorus, verse etc. Your final project can be any one of the following:

1) An original sequenced song.

2) A non-original sequenced song, i.e. a song played into Garage Band or Digital Performer from sheet music or concert band music.

3) A Nyssma solo plus accompaniment.

4) A collaboration with another student where the responsibilities are shared. For example, one person writes the chords of a song and the other writes the melody or lyrics.

5) A theory-based chord progression sequence.

REQUIREMENTS:
Your project should:

1) be 3-5 minutes in length.

2) use as many aspects of Garage Band or Digital Performer as possible (quantizing, panning, etc.)
have as many different parts as possible (keyboard sounds).
